LXP has the incredible privilege of hosting 50-60 vulnerable children each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoon at our Compassion Kids Care Point. At Compassion, a meal is provided, homework help and extra lessons are given, and discipleship takes place. This haven provides a nurturing environment for children to learn, grow, and thrive—offering a loving and safe alternative to hanging out on the streets after school.
Meet Iminathi, a bright and cheerful 10-year-old in Grade 4. Iminathi lives with his mom, grandmother, grandfather, and four siblings. His father is not part of their daily lives, and his mom works tirelessly as a domestic worker to provide for their family. This young boy’s passions include school, dancing, singing, and reading books—especially books about the Bible. Iminathi’s dream is to become a policeman one day, making a positive impact in his community.
Then there’s Zanande, an 11-year-old student in Grade 5. Zanande stays with her mom, sister, brother, aunt and uncle. Unfortunately, her father is also not a part of their daily lives, and she only gets to see him once a year. Zanande’s mom works hard in retail to support their family. Zanande enjoys dancing, learning, and singing. She’s particularly grateful for the extra English and math lessons provided by the Kids Care Point, which have significantly helped her with her homework. Her aspiration is to become a social worker, making a difference in the lives of others.
Ayola is an 11-year-old Grade 6 student. She lives with her mom, two brothers, two sisters, grandmother and uncle. She only gets to see her father once a month. Ayola finds joy in singing, reading books, and learning about God. She is thankful for the extra lessons from Compassion, which have helped her stay focused and avoid roaming the streets. Ayola also hopes to inspire change in her community by becoming a social worker when she grows up.
Finally, meet Yandiswa, an 11-year-old in Grade 5. Yandiswa stays with her father, grandmother and grandfather. Although her parents are separated, her father is actively involved in her life. He works as a gardener to support their family. Yandiswa delights in reading books, dancing, doing chores, and playing. She is also passionate about reading the Bible and serving others by cleaning up after programs. Yandiswa appreciates the safe and nurturing environment provided by Compassion, where she can escape the bullying she experiences on the streets.
These remarkable young individuals—despite facing various challenges—shine with hope, resilience and determination. What an honor, in Jesus’ Name, to serve and pour into their lives and into the lives of the other children who are part of LXP’s Compassion Kids Care Point.
